8 (Easy!) Last-Minute Christmas Ideas for Your Homeschool

Some years, I’m on it & Christmas schooling is a deluxe event. In other years, it’s December 15, and I’ve yet to even think about it.

Whether you’re looking for a last-minute idea or you want to add just one more thing, check out these easy ideas.

Christmas Writing Prompts

Just getting started can be the most challenging part of writing. And a pain point for mom? Printing! Write Bytes solves both problems — fun writing prompts that kids are eager to start & a digital format, so all you need to do is download the file. Bonus — they’re free!

Texting with Frosty

We all know that writing comes in various formats — including texts. This Google Slides activity from the Techie Teacher will let your kiddos practice all the skills of writing, including point of view, in a seasonal format. Designed for younger kiddos, your older ones can get in on the fun, too, with longer writing and a more complex storyline.

A Super Quick Book

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is, in our family, also considered the best Christmas book ever. It’s just the right mix of humor, fast-paced storytelling, and poignancy.

At under two hours of reading, it’s a great book to read at the last moment. The audiobook is even better — the narrator is absolutely perfect.

Just for the Littles

This Christmas fun pack will keep the little ones busy. They can practice basic math skills, drawing/coloring, early reading & spelling, and more.

Get in the Kitchen

Young kiddos & the kitchen are a perfect combination. Yes, a mess will happen. No, they won’t be able to do much on their own. But they’re practicing reading skills, developing an understanding of fractions, and learning the importance of doing steps in order!!

If you have an older kiddo or teen, this cookie recipe is great for them. There are just a few ingredients and even fewer steps.

Let Them Doodle

While you’re watching a wintery educational show, listening to an audiobook, or just waiting for dinner to finish, this little drawing activity will teach them to take their snowflake skills to the next level.

Code a Christmas Card with Scratch

Scratch coding — a visual, block-based language — is popular with kiddos because it’s easy to understand, and you can test your results right away. (It’s the language taught in the popular Hour of Code program.)

Now, your kiddo – even if they’ve never used Scratch — can take it to the next level by programming their very own Christmas cards. Check out these easy-to-follow directions from Meryl over at FundaFunda.

Science

I dread science activities. I’m terrible at getting things printed, making sure all the supplies are purchased AND located, and cleaning up. But I love doing them!

These ideas are quick & pretty low-prep.
