10 Easy Tasks to do Before a New Homeschool Year

10 days until our next school year. Year #13. Cliché as it is to say, I can’t believe this is where we are. A senior, an eighth-grader, and a sixth-grader.

I’ve been slowly preparing all summer, so there isn’t much to do this week. But we do have a full list of errands and a few straggling homeschool to-dos.

  1. Simplify meal planning this year with my favorite online recipe keeper + meal planner + shopping list generator.
  2. Add current events to your year. We made CNN10 a daily feature of our homeschool last year and it was, hands down, one of my boys favorite things!
  3. Plan ahead for the inevitable. Think about what sick days will look like this year & make plans for them. (link)
  4. Older kids can leave morning baskets, too. Here’s how we finally made them work for us.
  5. Every year, I print out this sheet. The questions help me to take a closer look at how it’s really going, so I can adjust our homeschool and make it even better.
  6. Don’t forget to check off all your techie to-do’s!
  7. Add some new meals to your fall menus with these 25 Meal Ideas for a New School Year. (Here are 30 more ideas.)
  8. Transition to a new school year smoothly with these tips.
  9. Netflix & Amazon are great streaming options. But do you know about PBS Passport? If not, you should!
  10. Lastly, if you take nothing else from this list, I hope you take this piece of advice.
