I was a junior in high school before I disc covered that history could be interesting.

Why? I finally had a teacher who taught us that history is more than a series of facts to memorize. And he taught us how the geography of the United States influenced its growth & historical events.

Once I saw the interconnectedness of it all & dropped the memorization of facts, my love of history & geography was cemented.

But it’s not just about inspiring a love of history or geography. I secretly hope my kiddos do. But what I really want is for them to understand history. And to enjoy learning about it. I want them to understand that culture & the land are connected. That geography affects history. And that the effects of an event don’t stop at some arbitrary date we memorized.
