10+ Places to Take (Strong!) Online Homeschool Classes for Teens
Online classes can be a great addition to your homeschool. But with so many options, where do you even begin your research?
As my oldest entered middle school, I started looking for online homeschool classes for her. I didn’t want to outsource everything but, gradually, I knew I wanted her to have that experience. I wanted her to have the opportunity to meet others, see how others learn, and have other adults evaluate my kiddo.
And with the year that was 2020, the explosion in online opportunities increased even more! I’ve never seen homeschool classes around circus skills or from the NY Film Academy. Thank you, 2020.
But if you put ‘online homeschool classes’ into Google, this is your result.

NOT. HELPFUL, Google!
So, sometimes, a starting point is what we need. And here’s your starting point. Look at them and see what you think. You may hate all of them. But you’ll walk away knowing what you don’t want in online classes — and that can guide you to one that will be a great fit. (Hopefully, you’ll find at least one good fit, though!)

Learning Outside the Box
Learning Outside the Box has just a few offerings…but they are some unique offerings. Classes begin at the 5th-grade level, though most seem to be aimed at the high school ages.
Classes include….
- Intro to Philosophy
- Mission Possible: Leading a country
- Comparative Sci-Fi
Classes for Teens
These classes are offered by a small, two-person company. So while it may be small & not have many offerings, what you gain is a more personal relationship that can continue as your teen moves through high school.
Bonus: Their prices are some of the lowest I’ve seen for high school level.
Next Level Homeschool
Unlike many online homeschool classes, Next Level Homeschool offers classes beginning at the age of 7. They also offer a variety of short-term & summer classes.
Some of their cooler class offerings (and some of the ones I’d like to take!)…
- Harry Potter genetics and The Language of Harry Potter (etymology)
- 7 Wonders of the Ancient World
- History of Food
- Medieval Technology
- Shakespeare in Pop Culture
Online G3
As their tagline makes clear (Smart Classes for Smart Kids), Online G3 aims to provide interesting & challenging courses for kiddos who can handle the challenge. That doesn’t mean your child needs to be gifted; they just need to be up to the challenge.
If your teen is taking any dual enrollment courses through Arizona State University, Online G3 offers a parallel class to include support & live discussions. For a kiddo transitioning to DE courses or who may need some extra help in a course, this would be a perfect addition.
Some of their cooler class offerings (and some of the ones I’d like to take!)…
- Bestsellers to Blockbusters
- Hamil-class: The Life of Alexander Hamilton through Music and Poetry
- Abnormal Psychology via Harry Potter
- The Business History of Video Games
Global Academic Productions
GAPro offers social studies courses that are live, self-paced, or flex (a blend of the two) for your high schooler. One of their classes is an AP class and the others may count as an honors course, depending on your homeschool.
The Potter’s School
If what you want is a more traditional set-up, The Potter’s School (Christian) is one to look at. With classes beginning in 5th grade, TPS offers a traditional sequence of classes and a pretty traditional set of classes. It would also be quite easy to outsource all of your classes to TPS — they offer a full range! Electives are also offered, including a variety of foreign languages, art classes, and computer classes.
While you might not find unique topics, you will find a solid curriculum from a school with a long (1997!) proven history. With a mission focus that includes reaching families serving in the mission field, they also put an emphasis on the community, including trips, summer camps, and weekly chapel.
Blue Tent Online
Another traditionally-sequenced with traditional offerings is Blue Tent Online. Their math, science, and English classes have AP/honors sections.
Blue Tent has the option, for some classes, to borrow textbooks from them, which is a fantastic addition!
Clover Valley Chemistry
While you may have never heard of Clover Valley Chemistry, among its alumni, it’s quite popular.
- Synchronous & self-paced options
- Honors chemistry, advanced chemistry, and organic/biochemistry classes
- Textbook-based
- Includes labs
Clover Creek Physics
Not to be confused with Clover Valley Chemistry, Clover Creek Physics offers just that — physics. If you’re looking for a highly-engaging, asynchronous physics class, this may be the one for you. It is lab-based and, while the spine is a conceptual physics spine, math is included.
AIM Academy Online
If you’re looking for one online provider who offers a variety of classes to get your kiddo through high school, check out AIM Academy Online. This provider is growing quickly! While they do offer a handful of elementary-level classes, the majority of their classes are for kiddos in middle & high school.
- Offers clubs such as Creative Writing & Chess
- Several AP courses, including science and math
Some of their cooler class offerings (and some of the ones I’d like to take!)…
- Film as Literature
- Board Game Design
- History of Africa & Asia
- The Science of Happiness and Well-Being
Taylor Made Science
Do you have a science-loving kiddo? A STEM-bound kiddo? Taylor Made Science may be the right place. All of her offerings are honors-level courses. She offers a loyalty program to save you money. You can check out a recorded class on her site to test out her teaching style. If you hate tracking down lab supplies, she will send you everything you need!
Pennsylvania Homeschoolers
If you’ve searched for AP homeschool courses, you’ve probably come across Pennsylvania Homeschoolers. They are one of the oldest (25+ years!) and most varied AP providers for homeschooled families. More than 70% of their test-taking students earn a 4 or 5. (Nationwide, about 1/3 of all students earn those scores.)
- Offers summer & honors courses, too
- Nearly all AP courses are offered
- Some courses need prior approval.
- Registration begins in February (and fill up quickly)
