31+ Movies to Watch on Disney Plus This Halloween

Disney Plus is loaded with Halloween movies & shows for the whole family. This list of the best Halloween movies you can stream tonight will make this the best time of year on your family’s TV.

If you want to know what the best horror movies are, this isn’t your list.  It’s not even the right place to find the best scary films.  But if you’re looking for ideas for Halloween movies for little ones to teens and the whole family, this is your list.

(And now it’s been updated for 2025!)

When it comes to holidays — in the parks or on the big screen — no one does it better than Disney!

Disney+ is loaded up this season. You’ll find a variety of classics like the Nightmare Before Christmas & Hocus Pocus 1. (And the long-awaited sequel, Hocus Pocus 2!). For the tweens & teens in your home, movies like Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire & Star Wars Terrifying Tales will induce plenty of laughs. And Disney would never forget the littlest amongst us! With shows like Vampirina and a Toy Story short, they’ll be in the holiday spirit, too.

All of these titles & more are found in the Disney + Halloween Collection.

But heads up! Since the Hulu & Disney+ collections are combining, this section now (in 2025) features content from Hulu, too. I’d suggest browsing this section without the kiddos around, as some of the images are…not very Disney-like!

Classic Disney Halloween Movies

Hocus Pocus series

Hocus Pocus & Hocus Pocus 2, featuring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker & Kathy Najimy, may be Disney’s most recognizable Halloween movie. The Sanderson Sisters, three witches from 1693, are accidentally resurrected by Max in modern-day Massachusetts.

Hocus Pocus 2, released in 2022, features the same cast. It’s worth watching if you enjoyed the first one.

The Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Halloween Bash features performances & appearances that celebrate the movies.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is another well-known Disney classic. This stop-motion animated film features Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town & his adventures when he stumbles into Christmas Town.

The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad

The stories of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Wind in the Willows come together in The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr Toad. Each story is featured in half of the film. While The Wind in the Willows isn’t a Halloween movie, Ichabod Crane rides home on Halloween & meets the headless horseman in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This date, along with the storyline, has made The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad a Halloween classic.

The Haunted Mansion (So many variations!)

1. In the 2003 Disney movie (only loosely inspired by the ride of the same name) stars Eddie Murphy who, as a realtor, gets trapped in a mansion (Gracey Mansion) with his family while on vacation. And that’s about where the connection with the Haunted Mansion ride stops, though Madame Leota does make an appearance.

2. If you want a version that is closer to the ride, watch the 2023 version. The rooms will look familiar, Madame Leota & the Hatbox Guest make appearances, and even some of the quotes will be recognizable. The story is that of a single mom & her son who need to rid their new home, Gracey Mansion, of supernatural squatters.

3. If the newest Haunted Mansion movie isn’t enough for you, Disney+ has created two ambiance videos, Haunted Mansion Swinging Wake & Haunted Mansion Enter If You Dare. With a 2-hour runtime each, these videos would make a not-too-spooky backdrop for a kids’ Halloween party or to play while you hand out candy on Halloween night.

(Ambiance videos ‘set the scene’ by pairing scenery & sounds/music. In Swinging Wake, a thunderstorm is the backdrop to the dining room scene, where objects that seem to move on their own, while a haunting (but not scary) soundtrack plays. Disney+ has a few of these, including a beautiful sunrise over Animal Kingdom one.)

4. Not to be left out, the Muppets have their own version of Haunted Mansion (2021). Gonzo & Pepe the Prawn take on a Halloween challenge to spend the night in the Haunted Mansion. The Stretching Room, the music, & the humor only the Muppets can provide. Personally, I think this is my favorite version! If you enjoy the Muppets, this is a must-watch this spooky season.

5. NEW IN 2025: As part of their 70th anniversary, Disneyland has released POV videos for many attractions. In the 9-minute video, you’ll experience the entire attraction from the view you’d have if you were actually there.

(Semi-) Educational Halloween Shows

I’m stretching the definition of educational here, I admit. But if you’re an avowed Disney family like we are, it counts for a bit of ‘Disney school‘.

Totally Tween & Teen Halloween Shows

What do you get if you add a little bit of cheesiness + a little bit of over-the-top storylines + just a bit of scare? Halloween shows that are perfect for teens (and nearly teens). Since the scare factor is not the main storyline for these shows, these are also great options for movie nights for the entire family. I’d consider many of them more like fun Halloween episodes of your favorite TV shows when you were a kid.

• “The Kite Monster Legend” – When Fernie doesn’t believe in the Kite Monster legend like his friends do, he starts to ruin their fun.“The Spooky Mirror Trick” – Flounder uses Ursula’s magic mirror to play a trick on his friends.
• “La Sirenusca”– Ariel tracks down a mythological sea creature. Ariel and friends get a substitute teacher in music class.

• “Zola’s Halloween Heist” – Zola puts grown-ups under a spell to get them to bring him all the Halloween candy.

Mickey Mouse Funhouse

• “Funhouse-made Costumes” – The gang has to improvise their costumes when they go missing on Halloween.
• “On a Dark and Stormy Night”– In Halloweenville, Goofy is comforted by his pals when he’s afraid of a big storm.

• “Eeyore Goes Trick or Treating” – Pooh Bear takes Eeyore trick-or-treating for the first time.

But if you can locate these titles on another streaming service, they are worth the watch.

• The World According to Jeff Goldblum series episodes on magic & monsters (both in season 2)
• Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands (Produced by 20th Century Fox, a subdivision of Disney. This is a surprisingly good movie for teens & adults.)
• The Sixth Sense (Disney sold the production rights but maintained distribution rights. While it’s not scary in the traditional sense, you’ll definitely know that M. Night Shamayla was involved! Definitely not for kids.)
• The Night House (by Searchlight Pictures, another Disney subsidiary) is a more typical horror film.
