12 Ways to Christmas Decorate Your Homeschool

I love decorating our home for Christmas and winter but it was only two years ago that it dawned on me..I could decorate our homeschool space, too!  What took me so long?!  I’ve included all sorts of Christmas activities into our homeschool, I can’t believe I never thought of decorations.

1. Several years ago, I (er…our elves!) made Christmas light-shaped garland to hang in the kids’ bathroom.  I (er, they) used glittered foam sheets from Michael’s. (LINK FOAM & TEMPLATE) Garland above a window in your school room or across the top of a wall would be an easy decoration (and out of the way of little playing hands!).  Pinterest is full of other ideas!  This garland of hanging ornaments would be really simple, this Santa hat one would bring a sense of magic to your room, I love the look of this Christmas light paper garland, and there are many other ideas, as well.  Check out my 12 Days of Homeschool Christmas Pinterest board for more ideas!
2. I’ve always thought I’d do this snowman idea if only we had a white refrigerator.  Over the summer, it occurred to me that I could do it on a door!  What a fun thing to see each morning as you start your school day.
   

Who are all these creative people who think of these things?!  Combined with science?!  That is definitely not my giftings, so I’m thankful for those who have it and share!  I love this idea of creating circuits and using them to light up part of a picture! Looking at my nearly-full size 13yo, I’m realizing that I don’t have many things showing her hands in younger years.  Don’t let that be you by making this handprint Christmas tree!  A quick craft that can be hung in your homeschool space year after year.

A basket of glittered pinecones (if you dare!) or scented pinecones (if you don’t dare!) would be a lovely decoration. Best of all, they are cheap to find (assuming your area has pine trees!) and you could keep them out all winter.

Wooden peg dolls to count down the holidays would add a calming, lovely touch to your homeschool.  You could do a nativity set, a Mr. & Mrs. Santa set, etc. They look easy to do but would require parental help.  I love that you can adapt them to whatever kind you want.   Check out Pepper & Pine’s YouTube channel for inspiration!

In another life, I’d be a Waldorf homeschooler.  Seasonal nature tables, wooden peg dolls, fairy lights, playsilks (okay, we actually do have those), etc.  I do love to bring a bit of nature into our school room though we don’t do a full nature table.  What a great way to inspire kids, explore nature, encourage crafts.  Do you have space where you can create a winter nature table, even a miniature one?  Maybe with those pinecones you made from above?

Several years ago, my husband’s unit deployed right before Christmas. (Quite literally…the 22nd!)  I knew it was going to be a tough Christmas, so I invited friends over.  With no chance of snow, the kiddos and I cut fifty-some paper snowflakes to hang from our dining room ceiling. It gave us a bit of magic on an otherwise rough holiday. I had an awesome Christmas snow globe when I was young.  It had a blue background with Frosty and a couple kids inside.  I kept it by my bed and looked at it before bed every night. These homemade snow globes take me right back!  I always assumed they were difficult to make, so I had avoided them when I saw them on Pinterest.  I think we may do them!  They would be fun for the kids to have on their desks and it would be something they could have year after year.
