5 Tips that Prove Homeschooling High School Doesn’t Have to be Scary
The start of your homeschool adventure is often full of fun, games, and learning. Then a hard realization hits – you will be homeschooling high school, and that can be scary! But, it doesn’t have to be. In fact, it can be the best years of your home education journey! Here are some tips that I think will help you, and me too!
This school year (2020 – 2021) is our first year homeschooling high school. I will admit that I spent the last couple of years worried about what we would and wouldn’t cover. I worried about how I would teach the harder subjects and keep track of all the things. In reality, it is much like all of the other years of our home education, we picked our curriculum and the rest fell into place.

One of the things that worried me most for our home education, was keeping a high school transcript. You too? I was so relieved to find Fast Transcripts! In fact, they even reached out to me and asked me to review their product so I could tell you how awesome it is. I will tell you more about that later but let’s talk about how I made this transition into high school easier.
Tips for Homeschooling High School
Tip 1 – ask your child how they want to further their education. Our family believes that trades are just as important as big degrees. So either path our children decide to take in high school is fully supported.
Tip 2 – find out what electives your children want to take. Once you know the electives they want to take over the next 4 years you can divide those up into credits and see where you have holes and decide how to fill them. We like to use our real-life experiences for electives, but make sure that is allowed by talking to your counselor.
Tip 3 – talk to your child’s counselor. Our umbrella has an amazing staff that helps us sort through all of the hard questions. This makes it super simple for me.
Tip 4 – start keeping track from the beginning. Tracking grades, credits, attendance, and all of that is very important as your child goes beyond high school. Having a solid transcript is necessary for enrolling your child in any further education. That is why we love Fast Transcripts!

With Fast Transcripts we are able to plug our information in and let it work it’s magic. I literally was able to input our first year information in within 5 minutes and done. Tip 5 – relax! Seriously! I have explained to my children that they are in charge of how far they get to go in their education. I can only help them so much, the rest is on them. So I purchase the curriculum, help teach them, and I am sitting back and seeing the fruits of this labor pay off!!
